Project: One Book a Month (1BaM)

I recently decided to start a personal project for 2010: buying one book every month this year. I simply like books not only because I'm an avid and tremendously fast reader of novels. It simply feels cozy to actually own them and have a nice bookshelf in your room. Also, my family has a long tradition in selling books and owns a small bookstore in Bremervörde which I really like.

There are several types of books I'm planning to buy, such as simple novels for entertainment, but also special literature mainly about geeky information science stuff. Have a look at this Amazon Wishlist, where I list potential candidates for my One Book a Month (1BaM) project. Allthough I'll definitely refrain from buying books at Amazon and support my local bookstore instead.

So I started 2010 with the following two books:

  • January - Pro Drupal Development by John K. Vandyk
This book covers a substantial overview of nearly everything you need to know about Drupal development. I started learning Drupal module development with Learning Drupal 6 Module Development, which is very comprehensive and good for beginners. Still, Pro Drupal Development is more extensive and a must have if you really want to dive into advanced Drupal.
  • February - Mann ohne Makel: Stachelmanns erster Fall by Christian von Ditfurth
I've already read the fourth book of this series and like the Northern German context (Hamburg, Lübeck) and the way v. Ditfurth creates tension inside these fascinating crime stories. This one's definitely suitable for being read on a relaxed winter evening.

What about you? Do you like books too? Do you have any recommendations for the upcoming months? Please share them in the comments! And if you decide to join my project and buy One Book a Month feel free to share your plans in the comments, too.
