Project Management and Interactive Web Applications (Social Media) in Medium-Sized Service Companies

[german version | Deutsche Version]

I'm just in the process of fine-tuning the last things of my bachelor thesis, which is about "Project Management and Interactive Web Applications (Social Media) in Medium-Sized Service Companies". The following abstract is a small appetizer for my blog readers:

Abstract

Communication is becoming an increasingly dominant influence for the success of projects in service-oriented companies. This thesis analyses how social media supports the communication of project teams and thus enhances their productivity.

The paper consists of three major parts, including two introductory chapters on project management and social media plus a final section to combine the precedent topics. First, you will learn about criteria to classify projects and choose a suitable project management method. Categorization and management methods are the basis to plan a project’s communication. The following chapter introduces you to the theoretical background of interactive web applications. You will get to know trends such as user participation through web 2.0 technologies and learn more about web applications like blogs, wikis, social networks or social sharing services.

The final chapter provides you with a comprehensive analysis of methods to improve collaborative work, exchange of knowledge and social interaction inside project teams by using these web applications. Eventually practical technological and social challenges are discussed. The paper concludes by proposing a model for utilizing social media in the context of project management.
